In 2020, Nebraska Extension moved from a district model of supervision and leadership to the Engagement Zone model. This model supports the N|2025 and N|150 strategic plans to broaden university engagement throughout all 93 counties, retain talent in Nebraska, and build collaborative partnerships. This organizational leadership structure positions us for effectiveness and success.  Engagement Zones build on what we are doing well with more intentionality and increased innovation, efficiency, and consistency.

Engagement Zones are designed to:

  • Increase time for coaching and employee development by lowering the supervisor/employee ratio.
  • Attract, develop, and retain faculty and staff resulting in higher quality work.
    • Connect people and programs and build relationships.
    • Connect local communities with the wide array of knowledge and expertise of the University with more meaningful opportunities for engagement and identify and solve problems.
    • Grow stakeholder support.
    • Increase innovation and efficiency within and across Engagement Zones.
    • Provide consistent, valued career guidance from supervisors.
    • Support the work of Lead Educators in county offices.
